Summary of Dr. Nelson's letter to schools

Why your school should take part

Dr. Mike Nelson, Deputy Superintendent of the Coeur d'Alene School District, says spelling bees build four things in students:

  • Confidence
  • Public speaking
  • Critical thinking
  • Perseverance

He also lists the opportunities that can follow: local recognition, cash rewards, scholarships and, for spellers who advance from the Regional Bee, a trip to Washington, D.C., for the National Bee.
